Xi'an & the Silk Road Origins
Ancient warriors, city walls, and the street food capital of China
Tour Highlights
Day-by-Day Itinerary
Day 1 · Arrival & Muslim Quarter
Afternoon: Airport transfer, hotel check-in. Your guide meets you at the lobby.
Evening: Muslim Quarter dusk walk — this is Xi'an at its most alive. Roujiamo (Chinese burger), persimmon cakes, lamb skewers, hand-pulled noodles. Your guide knows which stalls are the real deal. Drum Tower lit at night, Bell Tower square.
Day 2 · Terracotta Warriors & City Wall
Morning: Early departure to reach the Warriors before tour groups. Pit 1 — 6,000 soldiers, the scale is genuinely shocking. Pit 2 and 3 for the command structure and individual facial expressions up close. Bronze chariot pavilion. Your guide provides the full historical context: who built them, why, and what happened to them after.
Afternoon: Return to the city. Ancient City Wall — 14 km of intact Ming-dynasty fortification. Bike rental or golf cart for a full circuit. Views over the old city in every direction.
Evening: Rest or optional rooftop bar near the Bell Tower.
Day 3 · Big Goose Pagoda & Departure
Morning: Big Goose Pagoda — built in 652 AD to house Buddhist scriptures brought from India. Tang West Market for silk, spices, and souvenirs. Shaanxi History Museum (one of China's best) if time permits.
Afternoon: Transfer to Xi'an Xianyang Airport or high-speed rail station.
Optional extension: Huashan Mountain — add one day for China's most dramatic sacred peak. Cable car to the summit, cliff-side plank walk (optional, not for the faint-hearted). Suitable for those with reasonable fitness.
Combining Xi'an With Other Cities
Xi'an sits naturally in the middle of China's classic circuit:
| Route | Total Days | How | |-------|-----------|-----| | Shanghai → Xi'an | 6–7 days | Bullet train or flight | | Xi'an → Beijing | 6–7 days | Bullet train (5.5 hrs) | | Shanghai → Xi'an → Beijing | 10 days | See Classic China for Seniors |

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Xi'an worth visiting without combining it with other cities? Yes. Travellers who spend 3 full days here consistently say it's their favourite stop. The Terracotta Warriors alone justify the visit.
Is the Muslim Quarter safe for dietary restrictions? It's one of the most diverse food streets in China. Halal food is everywhere. Vegetarian options are plentiful. Your guide knows exactly what to order.
When is the best time to visit Xi'an? March–May and September–November. Summer is very hot (35°C+). Winter is cold but uncrowded, and the Warriors are spectacular without the summer rush.
