Xi'an Private Tour Guide
Terracotta Warriors, Ancient City Wall, Muslim Quarter street food — the starting point of the Silk Road awaits.
Highlights
Why Xi'an?
Xi'an was China's capital for more dynasties than any other city. Today it is most famous for the Terracotta Army — but stay two days and you'll find a living city of incredible food, ancient walls, and Silk Road culture.
Suggested Itineraries
1-Day Xi'an Essential
Morning — Terracotta Warriors Early start to arrive before tour groups. Three excavation pits with your guide, who brings the individual soldiers' stories to life. Allow 2.5 hours.
Afternoon — City Wall & Muslim Quarter Lunch near the wall. Afternoon walk or cycle on top of the 600-year-old city wall (14 km circuit — golf carts available for seniors). Dusk in the Muslim Quarter for street food: roujiamo (Chinese burger), biangbiang noodles, pomegranate juice.
2-Day Xi'an with Depth
Add:
Day 2 — Shaanxi History Museum & Tang Culture Morning at Shaanxi History Museum — one of China's finest, with 370,000 artefacts spanning 1 million years. Afternoon at Big Wild Goose Pagoda and Giant Wild Goose Pagoda plaza. Optional Tang Dynasty dinner show.
Key Attractions
Terracotta Warriors — 8,000 soldiers, 130 chariots, 670 horses — buried to guard the first emperor in 210 BC and forgotten for 2,200 years. Among the most extraordinary archaeological sites on earth.
Ancient City Wall — One of the best-preserved city walls in China. Rent a tandem bike or golf cart to circuit the entire 14 km perimeter above the rooftops.
Muslim Quarter — Xi'an's Hui Muslim community has been here since the Silk Road era. The narrow lanes are lined with food stalls and artisan shops — best visited at dusk when the lanterns come on.
Shaanxi History Museum — Free entry, world-class collection. Tang Dynasty gold and silver, Zhou Dynasty bronzes, Han Dynasty murals. Allow 2 hours.
Practical Information
Getting around: Private car with driver. Terracotta Warriors are 40 minutes east of the city.
Senior notes: Warriors site involves flat gravel paths. City wall has steps at the entrance — ramps available. Muslim Quarter is uneven cobblestone — we recommend afternoon rather than post-dinner when it is crowded.
Best season: Spring and autumn. Summer is warm but manageable. Winter is dry and cold.
Xi'an as hub: Xi'an connects easily to Beijing (5.5h by bullet train), Shanghai (7h), and Chengdu (3.5h) — making it the natural centrepiece of a classic China circuit.
